    The essential oil (Ylang-Ylang oil) of Cananga odorata from Xishuangbanna in Yunnan province was examined in detail by means of capi-llary GC/MS/DS on Finnigan-4510 type.The physical properties of the essential oil were the following: n23/D 1.5039, d21/21 0.9144, [a]21.5/D-45.14°. As the result, 22 compounds were ide-ntified. The major compoqents were β-caryophyllene (33.00%), γ-muurolene (19.82%), humulene (7.69%), geranyl acetate (6.21%), bergamotene (5.40%), benzyl benzoate (5.33%), farneso1 (4.75%), farnesene (3.29%),geraniol (2.48%), P-cresyl methyl ether (2.41%) .It was also discussed that how to improve the quality of the Ylang-Ylang oil from Xishuangbanna in Yunnan province.

    In ordcr to find the aroma characteristics of the essential oil of Pelargonium gravcolens L'Herit. produced from different producing area, the chemical constituents of the Geranium oil from Kunming, Yuxi, Shiping, Binchuan in Yunnan province and Bour. France, Egypt were analysed quali-tatively and quantitatively by means of capillary GC/MS/DS on Finnigan- 4510, and 35 different constituents were identified. As the result, the aroma of the essential oil from Yunnan seemed to be formed mainly by a combination of citroncllol, citronellyl formate, gcraniol, and rose oxide, while that from France and Egypt appeared to be formed by geraniol, geranyl formate, citronellol, citronelly1 formate and linalool. They are possessed of different style and aroma characteristics.

    Three new diterpenoid alkaloids from roots of Aconitum scap-osum Franch. Their chemical structures were established by meanq of MS, IR, 1H NMR, l3C NMR, UV and were confirrned by chemical methods. Alkaloid I designated scaconine (I ).

    Two new sterodal saponins (Lieguonin-A and Leiguonin-B) iso-lated from root of Tacca plantaginea(Hance) Deenth were characterized as yamogenin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→2)[-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1→3)][-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1→4)][-β-Dglucopranoside and yamo-genin -3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1→2)][-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1→3)][-β-D-glucopyranoside on basis of chemical and 1H NMR,13C NMr ,MS, IR spectral data.

    A collection made in October showed two well developed mi-crosporangia, borne on the ventral surface of each microsporophyll. A mass sporogenous cells wwere dividing within the microsporangium. In the following spring, at end of January to early February, the microspore mother cells were beginning for reduction division. During the reduction division period, the distribution of starch grains change. The formation of tetrads at the early February, and tapetal were gradually disintegrated. The formation of uninu- cleate pollen grain at the middle of February. The pollen grain soon develops two extensions of the exine whlich form the two wings. lt is heteroplar and radiosymtnetric. The pollen in shed at the four-celled stage in March.

    When the suspension cultures of Anisodus acutangulus were sup-plemented with precursors of either phenylalanine, ornithine or hyocyamine, phenylalanine was found to be most effective in promoting both the cell growth and its conversion to scopolamine. The growth rate of the cultures adding phenylalanine as precursor was 50.2% higher than that without phenylalanine and the ratio of conyersion was 4.0%.

    This paper studies some factors affecting the anthocyanin content in plantlets of Begonia fimbristipula Hance in vitro, i.e. composition of medium, pH, sugar, riboflavin and coconut milk. The anthocyanin content of the plantlets grown on 1/2 SH of medium was 33% more than that of 1/2 MS. The optilnal pH of medium for anthocyanin content and growth was 5.8. The kinds of sugar had marked effect on the anthocyanin content as the an- thocyanin content of plantlets grown on the medium with D-fructose was hi- gher than that of other sugars having 52% increase than that sucrosr. But, the growth of this medium was very low and equal to about 64% of sucrose.

    The sweet protein (mabinlin) was showed to be the major storage protein of Capparis masaikai Levl. seeds. It located in protein bodies of emb-ryonic axis cells and accotinted for about 90% of their total protein. The rou- nd protein body was 2-10 um in size and had inclusions of globoids but no crystalloid. As a very basic albumin, the sweet protein accumulated in the ma- trix of protein bodies in combination with a very acidic compound 2-hydrosyl -ethyl-glucosinolate. In matrix also located the acid phosphatase. Globoids were not rigid in size, and were composed mainly of the K salt of phytic acid.

    This paper presents the 315 species (number) of traditional cul-tivated plants in Tai villages of Xishuangbanna, their history, method of intro- duction, and adaptability. The ethnobotanical usages are also presented accor- ding to the investigation. In addition, the economic potentiality of the plants and their value in the study of plant introduction and domestication are discussed.

    The Cycas community is certainly a more primitive and ancient vegetation type in tropical and subtropical zones, but so far as inland Eurasia is concerned, it may extend to the boundary of Yunnan and Sichuan province, and make the most northern border line by itself. This paper deals with the natural community characters of Cycas panzhihuaensis which has been remained in moun- tain valley of Dukou City, Close to Jinsha River, at N.latitudes between 26°36′- 26°39′, E. longitudes between 101°33′,--101°35′. With a total area about 310 hectares, this community is dispersed over there, occupying the altitude 1100- 2000 m above sea level. Its habitat is a limestone mountain covered with dry open woodlands, that has resulted under a river valley climate with long dry and hot seasons (Nov.-May), spreading largely to the repeated firing, gra- zing, and shifting cultivation.

    Species affinis Enkiantho quinquofolo Lou. a quo differt fo1iis subtus basi sericeo-tomentosis, margine subpellucidis aristato-serratis. Arbor 3 m alta, cortex canus, ramuli robusti, glabri. Folia ad apicem ramuli conferta, alterna, rhombico-elliptica vel elliptica, 3.5-4.5 cm longa, 1.5- 3 cm lata, apice acuminata vel breve acuminata, basi attenata, margine subpellucida aristato-serrata, supra viridia, glabra, subtus pallidiora, basi ad costam sericeo-tomentosa ceterum glabra, costa rubtus elevata, nervis latera- libus 7- 9 jugis, cum venulis subtus conspicuis: petioli 8-10 mm longi, glabri. Cyma (1 -) 5-flora. Flos ignotus. Capsulae immaturae glabri, 5 - costatae; pedicelli sub fructu robusti, 1.8-2.2 cm longi, glabri.

Flores minimi, pedicelli capil- lares; sepala oblonga; petala ellipfica, unguibus brevibus; stamina longiora 4, breviora 2 basi .ectaribus 2 triangularibus praedita; filamentis basi crassio- ribus; antheris cordatis. Ovarium oblongum, pilis claviformibus brevibus pelluci- dis dense tectum, stylo tenui, stigmate minuto depressogue. Siliculae ovoideae, aseptatae, pilis clavifovmibus pellucidis dense tectae; valvulis intus reticulatis; seminibus dense minutique papillata, cotyledonibus accumbentibus.

    This paper deals with the parallel evolution in Litsea and Lin-deria of Lauraceae which is noL only occured in the infrageneric level but also in the generic level. Lit sea and Lindera devcloped into Dodecadenia and Ite- adaphlne and evolved from Parasassafras and Sinosassafras separately. Li- tsea subg. Uniflos Yang et P. H. Huang has been reduced to the genus Do- decadenia and Litsea monantha Yang et P. H. Huang to Dodecadenia gran- diflora Nees var. grandiflora according to the type specimen. Lindera cau-data (Nees) Hook. f. has been recombinated to the genus Iteadaphne as I.caudata (Nees) H. W. Li, comb. nov. In addition, a new genus Sinosassa- fras H. W. Li has bcen cstablished from Parasassafras Long only on the basis of 2-locellate anther.
